Record your paintings! The ArtRage Script system lets you record strokes while you paint for playback in desktop versions of the product at higher resolution. As you paint, it gets out of the way so that you don’t have to stop and manually adjust panels. The interface has been designed to maximize your creative space without hiding away critical functions such as tool and color selection. Load photos as Tracing Images which are overlaid on the canvas, and have ArtRage select colors automatically as you paint. Import images, converting them to oil for smearing or as Reference Images pinned to the canvas as a visual guide. ArtRage supports a wide range of Layer Blend Modes, and layer contents can be scaled moved and rotated independently. Tools apply texture as well as color, and blend under the brush.Īdd Layers to your painting and work on individual elements without damaging others. Each tool has a range of familiar properties such as how much thinner is applied to the paint, or how soft a pencil tip is. Take a look in the Digital Showcase for painting effects that you are trying to achieve, and feel free to ask the poster what programs they are using. I find painter overwhelming – too many controls. However, it is a lot more expensive, and more involved than using Artrage or Rebelle. Corel Painter is another good program for watercolor.

Both Artrage and Rebelle have a free trial and are quite affordable. The watercolor is definitely wet and will blend unlike Photoshop or Illustrator. In art rage I use the watercolor brush and then use a few different blenders using the wet palette knife tool, that give a slight frosted texture. I am not about to say anything is impossible in the digital world, however, for an easier watercolor effect, I would turn to Artrage or to Rebelle – not sure if I’m spelling the later correctly, but there the paint runs like watercolor.
